Desert safaris
How a safari works
On a 4×4 dune drive you ride as a passenger with a driver in a Toyota Land Cruiser or a similar off-roader. On buggy or ATV tours, guests typically drive on a guided route or a designated course. Ask about the vehicle, who drives and what the package includes.
What to bring
For an open buggy or ATV, bring sand goggles and a light neck gaiter or scarf to cover your nose and mouth. Wear closed shoes and bring water and sunscreen. Ask whether the operator provides a helmet and goggles.
Where to ride
Look for tours in Dubai’s Lahbab Red Dunes. In Abu Dhabi emirate, Liwa is home to Tel Moreeb, a dune rising more than 300 metres. Check the route with the operator, as a Liwa tour and a drive up Tel Moreeb can be different packages.
